North Korea announced that the talks with South Korea are suspended. The Central News Agency of North Korea (KCNA) explained that the recent military drills of the United States in partership with South Korea were "a rehearsal for [an] invasion of the North and a provocation amid warming inter-Korean ties". This comes just after the historic meeting between North Koreas leader Kim Jong-un and South Koreas president Moon Jae-in. It is also one month before the scheduled meeting between US president Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un.

In order to avoid a foreign currency crisis, Pakistan turned to China to ask a loan of $1bn. Tariq Bajwa, Pakistan’s central bank governor, confirmed this in an interview for the Financial Times. This comes as the next loan after many other including 12 since 1988 only to the International Monetary Fund. China already has a $60 billion investement in Pakistans infrastructures and the Pakistanis army imported military equipement worth $514 million in 2017.

The pairing between the MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and a private company is confident they will be able to use nuclear fusion to provide electricity within 15 years. Fusion would be a way of producing energy without any carbon emission but until now it has always costed more energy than it has created rendering it useless. Progress made in the materials used in reactors (see picture) has allowed this new timeline to be established.

Scientists have revealed more precisely the origins of the malaria disease and pinpointed the date to which the parasite, Plasmodium falciparum became human specific. Malaria appeared 50'000 thousand years ago and became started only infecting great apes (including humans), chimpanzees and gorillas until 3'000 to 4'000 years ago. Every year 200 million people are contaminated by the virus and in 2016 500'000 deaths were counted, mostly kids under the age of 5 years old.

After winning last years ice hockey world championship, Sweden did it again by beating Switzerland 3-2 after shootouts. The Swiss team took the lead 0-1 by Roman Josi but the Swedes answered by scoring only 76 seconds later. This scenario would be repeated later in the game and in overtime Kevin Fiala had an opportunity to win the game for Switzerland when he faced Swedens goaly in a 1vs1 matchup but wouldn't win it. After overtime, Sweden would eventualy win its 10th world cup by winning the shootouts 2 to 1.
